About TWF

The Mission
The fancy version of the mission is as follows:
The Write Foot aims to become the ultimate source for grammar tidbits that will improve the writing abilities of its readers, and will serve as the premier resource for individuals in search of information on the governing principles of English grammar. It will become readers’ one-stop shop for quick answers to questions whose answers are typically found only in grammar texts and lengthy tutorials. Readers will come to love the wit and humor of all posted content and will be more likely to retain the information that is presented.

In plain English, that means we get to have fun with English, yay!  (One day when I get good enough at French I’ll add a site for my francophone friends – stay tuned :) ).  I’ll point out common and not-so-common errors, and I’ll share tidbits of info that will allow you to make correct grammar decisions as you write emails, letters, business proposals, etc.  I’ll even show you little tricks and provide you with mnemonics to help you to avoid making the mistakes that make my blood curl when I hear them.  Fair?

How did it start?

I absolutely hands-down, feet-up love writing (don’t worry if you’ve never heard the “feet up” part of that expression, I just made it up!).  I actually started off as a Journalism major at college, but decided that I didn’t like covering stories… worse, I didn’t want people telling me what to write!  Now believe me, I have the utmost respect for journalists and what they endure simply to cover a story, but it just wasn’t for me (which thankfully I discovered early on).

So, given my love for writing, it was no surprise that I was considering adding “blogging” to the many other things I am known to dabble in.  But what would I write?  My life isn’t that interesting, so a personal blog was out of the question.  The Write Foot was really born out of a desire to share something I knew that other people needed to know.  It had to be something I was passionate about, because once I get bored it’s over!  I was honestly quite stumped, because I’d be the first to admit that I don’t know a whole lot!  However, when I thought about my admittedly drastic reaction to grammatical blunders – twisted face, ringing ears, stomach convulsions at times – there was no doubt in my mind that this would be the focus of my blog.  The ideas started rolling, and voila!  Ze blog…

Now, my little disclaimer: I don’t know everything there is to know, and I make mistakes too!   But, feel free to ask me and I will do my best to find answers to your grammar enigmas.  Oh, one more thing.  I do not understand Englibberish, that is, all the English terms they taught in school (I might not have been paying attention – apologies to any of my professors reading this).  The most I can help you with are figures of speech because I loved picking those out in poetry, but start asking me about clauses and past participles and I am clueless!  I do know when it looks/sounds right though, and I’m sure that I can help you get it right as well, in spite of this handicap.  So don’t hesitate to contact me with your questions, or post them in the comments section.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I love writing it.

See you in the posts!
